Robert Little, the youngest brother of Malcolm X, died Tuesday, Nov. 23,
1999. He was 61.

Little, a former deputy director of the Office of Youth Services in the
Michigan Department of Social Services, died at a Lansing hospital of complications
from lymphoma.

Little had been working for Michigan State University on a study about
kinship care, the care of children by grandparents or other relatives.

Little was 13 years younger than his brother Malcolm. who became a black
activist and a Muslim minister. He was shot and killed in New York City
in 1965.

Little became a deputy director in the state's Department of Social Services
in 1972 and held various top posts with the department until 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; daughter Sheryl Little- Fletcher
of Detroit; son Pierre Summers of Fort Knox, Ky.; seven grandchildren;
two sisters, and two brothers.

A memorial service was planned for Saturday at Michigan State's School
of Social Work. Details were unavailable.
