Buddhism in the American mind can probably
best be summed up by two contradictory images: one of the
Buddha meditating peacefully, the other of Nobel Peace Prize
winner His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a monk from a far-off land
thrust into an unexpected role as political leader and world
figure. The first implies detachment, quiet, and humble
serenity, while the second conjures images of engagement with
the world, moral righteousness, and energetic activity on the
behalf of others. So which is more characteristic of Buddhism,
the ascetic saint alone in his cave, or the passionate social
activist?. Go

If you’ve already heard I was Born With Two
Tongues you’ll know why, every time someone talks about them,
a lot of superlatives get used. If you haven’t, you’ll just
have to catch up with one of their shows (keep current at
www.2tongues.com) or check out their album Broken
Speak. Based in Chicago, the Tongues’ verbal onslaught has
triumphed in spoken word strongholds across the US.
